Silent Warrior Martial Arts is a program starting in May, formerly "School of the Silent Warrior" of Berlin, NH. Grandmaster John Schmaing and his long-time student Sensei Adam Cloutier will teach the art of Ninpo Chuan Fa, a martial art that combines the fluidity, grace, and peacefulness of Meditation, Yoga and Tai Chi Chuan with the effectiveness and power of martial arts such as Kenpo, Judo, Aiki-Jitsu, and Ninpo. Master Schmaing has over 40 years of martial arts experience, and along with Sensei Cloutier looks forward to sharing the art of Ninpo Chuan Fa with the local community.

Have you ever wanted to go fishing, but not necessarily as “one of the guys”? Here’s your chance to give fishing a try- no worries! Participants on this all-lady fishing adventure will spend about an hour learning about different tackle, baits, and how to set up their own fishing gear. After some practice casting on dry land, the group will head to the water to try out those new skills and, hopefully, catch a fish! This is strictly a catch and release session.

Sacred Harp is a uniquely American tradition that brings communities together to sing four-part hymns and anthems, not for performance, but for the joy of making music together. The music is written in shapes, a system developed to aid congregations in sight-reading. This series of four singing workshops is geared toward complete beginners. We will touch on the history of shape-note music, but will focus more on the actual singing of it. We will learn musical rudiments, how to sing the shapes and how to lead a Sacred song.
Students will learn the basics of weaving on a 4-shaft floor loom, including dressing a loom with a pre-made warp and practicing a variety of simple woven structures. We will focus on basic weaving processes while discussing fiber choices, color, pattern, and finishing techniques. This course is geared toward complete beginners. Students will leave the class with a simple handwoven scarf and the know-how to do it again! Carly Goss is a handweaver and shape-note singer. Carly proudly called Baltimore home for 12 years, during which time she earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree at the Maryland Institute College of Art, served as President of the Charm City Craft Mafia, and taught numerous weaving and natural dye classes in her studio, The Star Factory.
Trying to photograph your own artwork and making it look like it does in real life can be very tricky. In this hands on workshop, Christopher Hubble will show you how to get good shots of your work you can use for marketing, promotion and documentation. Learn how to avoid reflections and shadows that can obscure your artwork or leave colors washed out. Learn how to keep frames straight and undistorted. If you have 3 dimensional artwork, you will learn how to make it "pop"off the background. Bring your camera and a sample of your artwork to get the most out of this 2 hour workshop.

But having a clear, articulate description of your art is critical if you want to get your work out there into the world. We all know what we are trying to say with our art, but many of us have a difficult time organizing or communicating those ideas with words. Bring a notebook and some photographs of your work to get the most out of this fun and relaxed 2 hour workshop.
You will have the chance to experience guided imagery and sound meditation practices. You will develop the motivation and inspiration of incorporating this daily practice into your life. Through the self-empowerment of mindfulness meditation techniques, you will fully gain an understanding and awareness of your true self. Bring a yoga mat, blanket or pillow to sit on. Bring your own boat, paddle, and safety gear for a trip on the Androscoggin River. Meet at Nansen Wayside Park off of Route 16 in Milan NH. North Woods Rafting will take care of the shuttle. The group will paddle to Northern Forest Heritage Park. Bring your own food and drink to share for the end of the trip. This is a beginner to moderate social paddling trip. Learn new paddling tips from skilled guides or just socialize and enjoy the float down the river.
